For Tokyo–Kyoto–Shin-Osaka, check the seat type your suitcase needs before travelling. An ordinary reserved seat does not automatically include a reserved oversized baggage area.

- Select the seat type with an oversized baggage area.
- Use the seat map to check those specific seats.
- Complete the booking and confirm the selected seat type.
Train-wide availability can show seats even when the baggage-area seats are taken.

I already have a ticket
Check whether your confirmation explicitly includes a seat with an oversized baggage area. If it does not, use the change process for your original purchase.
- SmartEX: review your booking and its change conditions.
- Klook, Trip.com or KKday: check the original order and contact that seller about your specific ticket.
- JR ticket office: take your ticket details to a JR office for advice.
- JR Pass: check the reservation process and conditions for your pass.
If unsure who sold the ticket, start with the confirmation email or order history. Check conditions before cancelling or buying again.
The baggage-space seats are unavailable
Confirm that you checked the specific seat type, then look for another departure. If you are planning ahead, compare carrying, forwarding and storage according to when you need the bag.
A shipment needing advance preparation is not an instant solution for someone already at the platform.
I am already on the train
Keep your reservation details ready and ask the onboard staff for help with the storage situation. Do not assume you can use another passenger's reserved area.
